This September 2026 overview introduces OpenMinds, a non-partisan 501(c)(3) network of 125+ volunteer leaders, experts and partners working on the Dual Challenge: human flourishing and economic growth require energy, but our largest sources of energy drive global warming. Led by co-founder and Executive Director David Baldwin, OpenMinds pursues more energy and less emissions, fast, by ranking solutions on cost, speed and abatement potential.
Key points
- OpenMinds' 'P50' Outlook shows a gap of about 66 Gt of CO2 through 2035 versus a 1.8°C scenario, implying a 2.5 to 3.0°C temperature increase.
- Its top 10 solutions include methane abatement, carbon capture (CCUS), new and existing nuclear, renewables and coal-to-X switching, prioritized by low cost, deployment speed and abatement potential.
- Impact rests on three pillars: communications, NextGen Leaders and Catalyst Projects. NextGen aims to build a community of 300+ leaders over the next decade.
- Grid Vision, the current flagship Impact Project, sets out five solutions to add about 800 GW of grid capacity by 2035.
